When Is The Best Time To Schedule A Newborn Portrait Session | Cleveland Newborn Photographer

Best Cleveland newborn photographer shares tips on when to book a newborn portrait session to get the best photos.

A common question I get from new clients is “when is the most ideal time to get newborn portraits done?”  It is an important question because the timing can impact the quality of the portraits and you don’t want your newborn photographer to miss that small window of opportunity to capture the newborn phase!

Here are a few things to consider as you schedule your newborn portrait session:

  1. I recommend first researching your options during your first trimester and then booking with your preferred photographer once you enter the second trimester.
  2. Once you book a session with your newborn photographer, the actual session date likely won’t be scheduled until the baby has arrived since birth dates are usually unpredictable.
  3. The ideal time for the newborn session is within the first 14 days of life.  Reason being, those first two weeks are when babies are the sleepiest and will give the photographer the best odds at getting those sleepy, curly baby photos you love.  However, that is just a guideline.  A seasoned photographer should be able to capture beautiful portraits regardless of the newborn’s age.  I have photographed many premie babies who have come to me 4-6 weeks old and their sessions ran perfectly.

Don’t worry if you happen to be someone anxiously looking to book a newborn portrait session near or after baby’s birth.  There are many newborn photographers likely in your area who block off dates for those last-minute bookings (I am one of them!).  If you happen to be in the Cleveland, Ohio area, I can always help you with your search.  If I am unable to book someone who is in a time crunch to get those photos captured, I often reach out to my network of photographers to see if anyone else can squeeze them in.

This is interesting! We did a “newborn” photoshoot with my son at 4 or so weeks (whoops!) and my daughter at less than a week. This makes a ton of sense!ReplyCancel
