One Hour A Day

One hour a day. That’s the amount of time I get to spend with my youngest daughter during the work week. One hour filled with rushing around to get her fed, bathed and put down to sleep. When broken down into the amount of quality time I get to spend with her, I get a whopping 20 minutes.   Just 20 minutes a day to hold her in my arms, to make her laugh, to hold her little hands and give her kisses.

The full-time working mom role is a challenging one. It’s emotionally exhausting trying to uphold an image of that woman who’s got both worlds perfectly balanced. Because being everything to everyone is just not realistic.

I’m walking around with a cluttered mind filled with deadlines, appointments and endless to-do lists. A mind that forgets about the school’s Halloween party, leaving my kid as the only one without a costume. The extra trip made home to pick up the costume was worth being late that day.

I don’t want these early years of their life to slip away, but here I am watching it slip away, wondering where the time has gone.

I am at a constant mental battle with myself over the working mom lifestyle vs. the stay at home lifestyle, assessing whether the benefits outweigh the sacrifices for each arrangement.

I’ve spent many days, nights & mornings thinking about this. I am happy to say, that I’ve finally come to my own consensus. And that consensus is that it is time for a change.
